Last year I watched the “Sholay” movie. Yes, the iconic, “The Sholay” movie. The movie which the majority of the Indian population must have seen already again and again.

When I was born, the movie was 14 years old. When I was 14 years old I heard of this movie. Then 14 years later I saw it in parts and pieces. Yes, until that I didn’t see this movie for various reasons like not having a television in early childhood, not having much exposure to movies in the late teenage and later, and so on. Having reached this line, now those who are calculating my age, wait, social media will tell you anyway, so for now, let’s continue reading this blog.

So, yes, I watched the Sholay movie with all my attention. I may be the last one of my age who is saying it’s THE awesome movie with THE best dialogues. And I felt I was really too late to watch this wonderful movie. And also I felt so happy that I watched it finally, and I won’t get bored watching it again.

Having seen it in this time where I have my own strong values and opinions and life goals, my observations about this movie are as follows and are different, and maybe weird.

1. The movie is totally clean. Seems flawless. Storyline and dialogues are brilliantly put together.

2. Basanti is a self-made independent girl from the village (they showed her in 1975, Wow!) who knows how to protect herself and can give a tough fight to those who attempt to harm her or her love.

3. Basanti runs a horse-cart which is her source of earning, she has chosen a male-oriented work profile and is very powerful in doing her work.

4. Jai and Veeru are undoubtedly real best buddies with fantastic chemistry and love.

5. I somehow sensed that the air at that time was more clean and pure.

6. The furniture in the movie is all wooden.

7. The lady used a knife to cut vegetables which seemed to have a wooden handle and not plastic.

8. Ramlal brings some stuff from the grocery which was wrapped in paper and not in a plastic bag.

9. In spite of having plenty of wind, there is no cloth hanging clips when clothes are put for drying, unlike today where most people use plastic ones.

10. I did not see any plastic in the movie except in one scene where Thakur has arrived home for vacation with gifts to family members and in that, a Saree was wrapped in a plastic bag.

11. There was a very small number of vehicles that included goods train running on coal, motorcycle in the “Ye Dosti” song, and police jeep, otherwise, everyone is either walking or using bicycles, or riding on the horses or with carts.

12. Roads and surroundings seemed clean.

13. People respected each other and each other’s religion. Someone from the village will always run to help Imaam Sahab to reach Masjid through stairs for Namaz.

14. People played Holi with dry color mainly, they did showed watercolor guns but they looked either wooden or metallic.

15. And this one: Sometimes, it’s okay to have two sides of the coin the same. As that may save someone’s life.

Well, some of the observations could be wrong and weird too. But overall do you notice how much we can learn from this movie?

This movie has a huge message for sustainable living in all sense. It teaches us about building sustainable human-human relationships and about sustainable living ie. sustainable nature-human relationships.

After having read this, maybe you wanna watch the movie again with that ‘Sustainable Eye’. Do watch it! We need more sustainable eyes in this world.

Now, I know you might want to hit Like or Clap (for the post), Love (for Sholay and maybe for the post), Wow (in case), and Haha (for few laughter punches) at this post. But we can give only one reaction of all. And I feel like saying:

“अरे ओह सांबा, कितने रिएकशन्स है?”

“सरदार, चार…”

“चार रिऍक्शन्स और एक ही बटन, बहुत नाइंसाफी है…”

So, that is it! My Sholay Blog Post! Live Sholay, Live Sustainable!

[Please don’t throw me away as I have not yet seen Harry Potter, The Avengers, and First Part of Bahubali :-)]
